Magical Moment 501, "Hear's to IMAX"

I sat through 2 hours of ear-piercing thuds and ground-vibrating explosions. Not in war zone, but in the safety and comfort of our local IMAX Theatre, Skittles and popcorn in hand. I had never been to one before, when Eddie took me a few nights ago on a date.

I suppose the images were sharper than a regular movie screen. It was certainly larger. But what really shocked me was how loud it was! We were still sitting through the previews when I slapped my hands over both of my ears and gave Eddie a terrified glance. Like a child sitting through fireworks, trying to enjoy the magnificent display but in painful discomfort.

I soon discovered that Eddie's shoulder was the optimum level at which to lean my head on. After all, that is the best way to watch a movie with someone. Eddie could feel when I tensed, winced, or jerked in reaction to a sudden booming sound. Only one ear drum found protection, pressed against his shoulder. And so with his hand, he reached around to my exposed ear and covered it as well. For the next 2 hours, my head would remain sandwiched between Eddie's shoulder, and Eddie's hand. He said it was one of his favorite dates. And that is how I made it through my first IMAX experience, hearing in tact.

I love the image of Eddie shielding you from the terrifying noises and then the romantic statement that it was one of his favorite dates ever. I've always enjoyed the Imax experience, and I don't particularly like to damage my eardrums. I wonder if there was something wrong with the sound system in the theater that night. I don't think I've ever sat through one that was that bad.
Linda, to be honest I'm kind of a wimp with loud noises! Lol. It didn't seem to bother Eddie. :)

But you didn't tell us what the movie was !

;-)

I love IMAX movies - like being right there in the scene. The sensations produced are awesome. First one I ever saw was called 'North of Superior' - many years ago. One of the best I ever saw was about a climb up Mt. Everest - see that if you get the chance.

Imax was never big down in our part of the world. In fact, I think the only theatre closed a few years back... The thing that has me jumping is these 3D movies- I guess I just got too used to watching movies on my tiny laptop screen in Madagascar! You never cease to amaze me- you say you're a wimp when it comes to loud noises. That must have been challenging in the army!

oh that's almost sweet, if it wouldn't have been painful!
Rick, the movie was "Super 8." I thought it was a good movie!

Birdie, you're welcome! I'm so happy you enjoyed it.

Robin, LOL! In the Army, they give you ear plugs! :)

Texwisgirl, but if it wasn't painful first, it wouldn't have been sweet! :)

Magical Moment 625, "Thailand - the Elephants"

Needless to say, my favorite part of our Thailand vacation, was our week long volunteering at  Elephant Nature Park ! The logging industry was banned in Thailand in 1989, leaving thousands of elephants unemployed. These elephants are now used for tourism. You may have heard of elephant shows featuring the animals playing soccer or painting pictures with their trunks. They are no doubt amazing to watch, but the sad truth is that these elephants have gone through a series of torture and abuse to "break their spirit" by their trainers. This short clip is very hard to watch, but it will give you an idea of what the elephants in captivity in the country of Thailand go through. The only elephants in Thailand who do  not  endure this, are the very few baby elephants who are first generation born in "safe captivity" at places like Elephant Nature Park. Every other elephant at this park has been brutally abused. Some have been blinded by their owners, le

Magical Moment 620, "Lilac Garden"

Eddie and I visited the Lilac Gardens at Ringwood Manor in New Jersey, a pristine and beautiful state park with 8 species of lilacs and several varieties within. We went on a rainy afternoon, which turned out perfect because the rain stopped for us when we got there, and began again as soon as we left. It also decorated the plants with gorgeous rain drops, adding to their beauty.  And now for a quick game of "Where's Elizabeth?" And "Where's Eddie?" ~~Have a great weekend! ~~

Magical Moment 280, "The Eleventh Hour"

The Veterans Day Parade, NYC On July 29, 2001 , five exceptional men were honored by the President of the United States for their remarkable military service. They were involved in a top secret mission that required unfathomable intelligence and as a result, literally won a battle which was instrumental in winning the war. Not the war that was happening in 2001, not even the Gulf War. It was World War II, and they were the Navajo Code Talkers who were largely responsible for winning the bloody battle of Okinawa. The only problem with the ceremony was that just 5 remained of the original 29. Our country was too late in thanking the other 24, and nearly too late in thanking those 5 men. On March 10, 2010, three hundred women won the Congressional Gold medal for their outstanding war service. Unfortunately, 800 received the award posthumously. These were the Women Airforce Service Pilots (WASP) of World War II, who devoted themselves to flying military aircraft like the B-26 and B-
