Magical moment 145, "The Hunt"

Two hunters made their way through a jungle of stone, equipped with all the supplies needed to locate their target. They had been searching for days in the unbearable heat, with the sun relentlessly beating down and showing them no mercy. They rested, only briefly at a local watering hole, before continuing their pursuit.

Soon the hunters came to the known territory of their hunted. Their senses suddenly heightened when they became aware of its nearby presence. They squinted hard into the distance searching for its shape and turned their heads, cupping their ears while straining to hear its call. “Sh! I hear it.” One hunter said. “Is that it?” He pointed to the horizon. The targets wore excellent camouflage and blended into their surroundings with ease. “No,” the other hunter replied. “That’s a dumpster,” she said.

They stepped cautiously, knowing it could make itself known at any moment. The hunters were no stranger to this game. An amateur would think it was easy to find, given the small geographical area it’s confined to. But the hunters knew better. And suddenly out of nowhere, just like many times before, it made its distinct, unmistakable call. “There! Behind those trees.” They ran towards the sound and as they made their way to the clearing, there it was in plain sight, out in the open for all to see and interact with. The piano. “Sheesh, it’s about time,” said one hunter, “We’ve been wandering around Central Park for hours now.”

We have only 6 pianos left to see for Sing for Hope’s Play Me, I’m Yours project!!! Should be complete by tomorrow or Thursday at the latest.

That story is no joke! It's like they are camouflaged, but really they are usually hot pink or bright orange and yellow. It's maddening to finally find one of them and realize that you walked right by that area at least three times already.

My job is a subway motorman. I am working tonite in Concourse Yard and on my way home ~3am I hope
I can sit at the piano on the Concourse. I just wish I could record the moment: me dressed up for work, playing the concourse piano after driving the concourse subway...

Hi Eddie--I didn't play it yet... the piano is only open 'till 10PM. I'm in the Bronx this weekend ($ july) and I work for the Yankees (read: Baseball special) on the D line.l I shall try again Sunday night and see if I can get someone to hold my camcorder (or put it somewhere close by) to record whatever I end up doing...
..pure urban extemporization!

It's right in front of Hostos college, practically right under the pedestrian bridge, on the east side of G.C.
It hasn't been locked at night, as I pass by there around 2a.m. to make some noise, which is good because no one would want to hear my attempt to play!

Elizabeth I commend you for two things, first that you made the videos you put on your you tube channel. You're quite proficient, and no doubt enhanced many peoples days with your playing. It must not have been easy to visit all 60 around the city. I'd also like to commend you for participating in what is something that makes NYC stand out, even though some choose to vandalize what has been a gift to us as citizens.
Secondly I'd like to tip my hat to you for going out and discovering the city. By now you've seen your share of the five boroughs. There's obviously a lot more to this place than just that island where all the tourists hang out.
Absolutely Dave! I definitely discovered some amazing places. After only 8 months of living here, that was one of our goals. Thanks for reading about our little adventure. :)

Magical Moment 620, "Lilac Garden"

Eddie and I visited the Lilac Gardens at Ringwood Manor in New Jersey, a pristine and beautiful state park with 8 species of lilacs and several varieties within. We went on a rainy afternoon, which turned out perfect because the rain stopped for us when we got there, and began again as soon as we left. It also decorated the plants with gorgeous rain drops, adding to their beauty.  And now for a quick game of "Where's Elizabeth?" And "Where's Eddie?" ~~Have a great weekend! ~~

Magical Moment 625, "Thailand - the Elephants"

Needless to say, my favorite part of our Thailand vacation, was our week long volunteering at  Elephant Nature Park ! The logging industry was banned in Thailand in 1989, leaving thousands of elephants unemployed. These elephants are now used for tourism. You may have heard of elephant shows featuring the animals playing soccer or painting pictures with their trunks. They are no doubt amazing to watch, but the sad truth is that these elephants have gone through a series of torture and abuse to "break their spirit" by their trainers. This short clip is very hard to watch, but it will give you an idea of what the elephants in captivity in the country of Thailand go through. The only elephants in Thailand who do  not  endure this, are the very few baby elephants who are first generation born in "safe captivity" at places like Elephant Nature Park. Every other elephant at this park has been brutally abused. Some have been blinded by their owners, le

Magical Moment 606, "Thank You Canada!"

After an intense week as a participant in the  Musician's Mentorship Program  with Canada's National Ballet School in Toronto, I am back in the good ol' US of A. The trip was a success, not only did I learn a TON in the program, but I got to see Canada for the first time, increasing my number of countries visited to 3! (Mexico and South Korea, if you're wondering about the other 2). I was surrounded by incredibly talented musicians who didn't hesitate to dish out their best advice, tips, and secrets to me. In addition, I was surrounded by some beautiful scenery and amazing sights. The trip got even better when Eddie flew out to meet me half way through the week, and even BETTER when I was able to meet up with a friend, known only through the blogosphere until now. Yes ladies and gentlemen,  Hilary of The Smitten Image  herself happens to live only minutes from where I resided in Toronto. I admit, it was a little like meeting a celebrity. I first "met" Hi
