Magical Moment 356, "Eye Witness of Eyewitness News"

Channel 7 Eyewitness News is on our TV pretty often. I'm not a huge news buff, but sometimes I leave it on in the background to somewhat "stay in the loop" of the outside world. But something caught my ear today.

It's been a while since I've been around elementary school age children, and it's been an even longer while since I've been that age myself. I've nearly forgotten the silly games and rituals that take place in the world of a child. Remember the cutie shot? Circle, circle, dot, dot, now I have the cutie shot? Yesterday, I sat through ballet class and listened to 2 young girls discuss their sure-fire routine to create a snow day. It involved putting socks in the freezer, and some interesting rhymes (Zang, zong, zing! Come on sky, do your thing!). I snickered out loud despite myself. But today, I'm not snickering.

The ground is covered with a fresh layer of heavy, wet snow with no signs of slowing down. And today on the news, a reporter interviewed some school age children discussing the very same routine for creating a snow day! Not so silly anymore, these games!

I'm now left wondering 2 things. Was the ritual I was an eyewitness to at ballet class, the one responsible for this massive amount of snow? And does this mean that because I was so religious about getting my cutie shot as a child, that maybe I did actually skirt the dreaded disease?

I can't help but love reading about these cute litte rituals and realize the innocence in a child's perspective. I miss the days where my biggest wish in the world was another snow day to cuddle up at home and read a Mary Higgins Clark novel in bed with a cup of hot cocoa.

Beth, I love these little posts knowing you live less than a mile from where I grew up. I'm a News 4 New York girl and a Fox 5 (It's 10PM-Do You Know Where Your Children Are?) local news watcher whenever I am home. The NJ Transit 163 bus was my school bus in high school. That Presbyterian Church at the bottom of my block in Wood-Ridge is where my friends and I would make snow angels in the yard walking back from the bus stop.

I love these posts and the fact that you write about my hometown always brings a smile on my face when I'm out here in the middle of Kentucky!

Keep writing!! I love it!

The games children play...

I think it has nothing to do with it but it is an interesting thought ;). We could all take a lesson from kids. To not take life so seriously all the time and make a rhyme. Enjoy the snow!

Well thankfully, no, that's not how it works or in this house filled with four children, I would be in BIG trouble! lol

Saw this on a church sign, "If you are praying for snow, please stop". (!!)
Ro, That was one of the most meaningful comments I've ever gotten! I'm so glad you feel that way. I take the 163 to the city every time I go. I haven't lived here long, but it's my current "home" and I love being a part of it. :)

Steve, thankfully they're nothing more than games! (otherwise, we'd have a lot more snow this year!)

TNE, yes, a nice reminder to loosin up a little!

Esther, and you have an interesting enough time as it is! lol.

Emelle, funny! Snap a picture of it. :)

'Zang, zong, zing! Come on sky, do your thing!' It sounds convincing to me. Entertaining post.

Magical Moment 620, "Lilac Garden"

Eddie and I visited the Lilac Gardens at Ringwood Manor in New Jersey, a pristine and beautiful state park with 8 species of lilacs and several varieties within. We went on a rainy afternoon, which turned out perfect because the rain stopped for us when we got there, and began again as soon as we left. It also decorated the plants with gorgeous rain drops, adding to their beauty.  And now for a quick game of "Where's Elizabeth?" And "Where's Eddie?" ~~Have a great weekend! ~~

Magical Moment 625, "Thailand - the Elephants"

Needless to say, my favorite part of our Thailand vacation, was our week long volunteering at  Elephant Nature Park ! The logging industry was banned in Thailand in 1989, leaving thousands of elephants unemployed. These elephants are now used for tourism. You may have heard of elephant shows featuring the animals playing soccer or painting pictures with their trunks. They are no doubt amazing to watch, but the sad truth is that these elephants have gone through a series of torture and abuse to "break their spirit" by their trainers. This short clip is very hard to watch, but it will give you an idea of what the elephants in captivity in the country of Thailand go through. The only elephants in Thailand who do  not  endure this, are the very few baby elephants who are first generation born in "safe captivity" at places like Elephant Nature Park. Every other elephant at this park has been brutally abused. Some have been blinded by their owners, le

Magical Moment 606, "Thank You Canada!"

After an intense week as a participant in the  Musician's Mentorship Program  with Canada's National Ballet School in Toronto, I am back in the good ol' US of A. The trip was a success, not only did I learn a TON in the program, but I got to see Canada for the first time, increasing my number of countries visited to 3! (Mexico and South Korea, if you're wondering about the other 2). I was surrounded by incredibly talented musicians who didn't hesitate to dish out their best advice, tips, and secrets to me. In addition, I was surrounded by some beautiful scenery and amazing sights. The trip got even better when Eddie flew out to meet me half way through the week, and even BETTER when I was able to meet up with a friend, known only through the blogosphere until now. Yes ladies and gentlemen,  Hilary of The Smitten Image  herself happens to live only minutes from where I resided in Toronto. I admit, it was a little like meeting a celebrity. I first "met" Hi
