Magical Moment 585, "Tackling Hills"

I got another life lesson while running the other day.
Hills. They can either kill your morale, or light a fire under you.
I might not be the fastest or strongest runner, but I don't often let a hill get the best of me.

Yet I've felt myself slowing down in other ways lately. There are so many obstacles in my path. Haven't I worked and sweat enough? I've become accustomed to the comfortable pace of 2 steady piano jobs (which I'm more than grateful for), but my original goal when moving here, was to song write and record. A process which is proving to be more time consuming and complicated than I would have ever imagined. Just when I think I see the finish line, another hill arises in my path.

That's when I'm reminded of the old saying (and excuse the cliche) it's not the destination, but the journey that's important. And so with each step, I admire the view around me and appreciate more than ever those miles stones that I pass along the way.

Chasing your dreams can be exhausting! Avoiding the hill might be easier, quicker, simpler. But as the opera singer, Beverly Sills once said, "There are no shortcuts to any place worth going."
~~~
One recent mile stone:
The first time any of my music has been played on the radio. I was included on Evan Ginzburg's "Legends Radio" during his show theme featuring Independent Artists. This link will take you to the archive of the show. Press play, and my song begins at about 8 minutes:
~~~

For those curious about the progress of my upcoming album...it's coming up...I promise. :)
And here are the past posts, in order as I describe the process of recording!

You describe the Hill very well. It does take persistence. You are making it...your talent also. I guess it is always more complicated than we ever imagine.
The process is daunting, to be sure; but you've tackled daunting tasks before. You're an overcomer, and I'm sure you'll continue to be an overcomer as you pursue your musical dreams.

The last time we ran together, she went half way up a hill and looked back and down at me to see where I was. Too out of breath to speak, I just waved my hand at her indicating that she should go on without me. She knew what I meant, but she came back and encouraged me anyway. I was waiting for her to crest the hill and leave me completely behind so I could stop and walk without embarassment, but she wouldn't let me quit. I do love and admire my wife.

If any one can do it, you can! Enjoying the scenery along the way maybe a cliche, but it's very true. And how wonderful being on the radio!!! Onwards and upwards :o)
(I couldn't help but smile and feel al lovely at Eddies comment, just lovely)

I used to love hilly runs while I was still running. Loved the challenge of the uphills and the thrill of flying downhill... I look forward to the CD release!

Ahhhh. The HILL. I hear you...it's something we seem to have to tackle often...running or otherwise. And tackle it we must.
I like Eddie's comment:)

At times, life seems to be an endless series of hills but your attitude is the right one. It will see you through.

Congrats on hitting the airwaves. It must feel similar to when I got my first byline. :)

From having followed your posts for a while I know you're not a quitter, no matter the obstacles. And while you're conquering your 'hills', you manage to be an encourager too (Eddie's comment). And the view from the top of a hill is lovely too !

Elizabeth- There's also the old saying Slow and steady...
And an album on its way! And airplay! You're already reaping rewards. :)

I agree w/Hilary, too, you do seem to enjoy the journey. That's what it's all about.

And the view is great from the top...of the next hills to descend and climb, to say nothing of the strength to be gained along the way.

How exciting! Very soon you'll be standing on top of the very tall hill. I'm sure you'll enjoy it immensely and then continue on to the next one. An inspiration!

Magical Moment 625, "Thailand - the Elephants"

Needless to say, my favorite part of our Thailand vacation, was our week long volunteering at  Elephant Nature Park ! The logging industry was banned in Thailand in 1989, leaving thousands of elephants unemployed. These elephants are now used for tourism. You may have heard of elephant shows featuring the animals playing soccer or painting pictures with their trunks. They are no doubt amazing to watch, but the sad truth is that these elephants have gone through a series of torture and abuse to "break their spirit" by their trainers. This short clip is very hard to watch, but it will give you an idea of what the elephants in captivity in the country of Thailand go through. The only elephants in Thailand who do  not  endure this, are the very few baby elephants who are first generation born in "safe captivity" at places like Elephant Nature Park. Every other elephant at this park has been brutally abused. Some have been blinded by their owners, le

Magical Moment 620, "Lilac Garden"

Eddie and I visited the Lilac Gardens at Ringwood Manor in New Jersey, a pristine and beautiful state park with 8 species of lilacs and several varieties within. We went on a rainy afternoon, which turned out perfect because the rain stopped for us when we got there, and began again as soon as we left. It also decorated the plants with gorgeous rain drops, adding to their beauty.  And now for a quick game of "Where's Elizabeth?" And "Where's Eddie?" ~~Have a great weekend! ~~

Magical Moment 280, "The Eleventh Hour"

The Veterans Day Parade, NYC On July 29, 2001 , five exceptional men were honored by the President of the United States for their remarkable military service. They were involved in a top secret mission that required unfathomable intelligence and as a result, literally won a battle which was instrumental in winning the war. Not the war that was happening in 2001, not even the Gulf War. It was World War II, and they were the Navajo Code Talkers who were largely responsible for winning the bloody battle of Okinawa. The only problem with the ceremony was that just 5 remained of the original 29. Our country was too late in thanking the other 24, and nearly too late in thanking those 5 men. On March 10, 2010, three hundred women won the Congressional Gold medal for their outstanding war service. Unfortunately, 800 received the award posthumously. These were the Women Airforce Service Pilots (WASP) of World War II, who devoted themselves to flying military aircraft like the B-26 and B-
